Saskatchewan Board Members Needed!
Turning Leaf is looking for board of director candidates in Saskatchewan
Turning Leaf Community Support Services (Inc.) is a non-profit, treatment based organization that provides crisis intervention, counselling, and treatment services to those living with intellectual challenge and mental illness.
About the board
The Turning Leaf Board of Directors operates under a governance model and includes an executive committee and board members. The executive committee constitutes a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. These are elected positions with one year terms. Non-executive members are referred to as board members.
As the board of directors is a voluntary board, Turning Leaf (Inc.) welcomes prospective members to sign on for a period of two years. The agency’s organization health, viability within the community, and overall effectiveness is positively impacted when board members choose to stay on for longer periods.
Expectations of the board members
Turning Leaf (Inc.) has a user-friendly board policy and procedure manual that prospective members are asked to review. It outlines both expectations and processes, but put simply, we ask the following of its board members:
- Attend meetings.
- Review the executive director/ treasurer’s report for each meeting.
- Engage in dialogue with board members around issues put to the board for their consideration.
- Review monthly CEO reports and provide insight, guidance, and accountability.
- As needed, and based on availability, board members will be asked to sit on a sub-committee (e.g. finance, fundraising, strategic development oversight, etc).
Meeting times/board retreat days
The board meets quarterly. The spring meeting is typically the annual general meeting where executive member (officer) positions are elected. Meetings last approximately 2-3 hours (dinner is served,) and occur in the evening (usually at 6pm). For members that are remote, conference calling or Skype will be arranged.
There is also a board retreat day or weekend in the fall. The location will either be Winnipeg or Regina. Travel, lodging, and meal expenses will be covered by the agency.
