Practicum placements have the potential to be some of the most fulfilling and beneficial work you will do! At Turning Leaf we feel there’s a great opportunity to learn about the work we do, giving back to the community and helping others. Practicum placement allows you to build self-confidence, gain a sense of accomplishment, and build relationships. It is also a gateway to the workforce by testing career options of your desired path.
Not only does the role of practicum student help build organizational strength, but a student gets the chance to feature their talents and build on their own strengths as well. Completing practicum with Turning Leaf will not only uplift the student but it creates a healthier community, promotes the organization’s goals and values, and will provide a better environment for the individuals we serve.
Completing practicum with Turning Leaf one can expect to be treated with respect and dignity and be a welcome member of the Turning Leaf family!
qualifications
- Have an interest in at least one of the following: mental health, addictions, intellectual disabilities, the justice system and like scenarios.
- Have unconditional positive regard for the people we serve
- Must be 18+ years of age
- Have basic computer skills
- Copies of these items will be required:
- Valid criminal record check and child and adult abuse registry checks.
- Valid CPR/First Aid certification
- Driver’s license


PRACTICUM
PATHWAYS
Depending on your area of study, your practicum site(s) will be determined by the Turning Leaf Practicum Pathway. Sites are determined by the practicum coordinator. Sites where practicum could occur are:
- Day Program
- Residential Services
- Supported Independent Living
- Administration
- Marketing & Communications
- Other areas as available

Turning Leaf provides a welcoming and comfortable training space, including light refreshments and coffee. Turning Leaf offers a safe space to explore questions, concepts and creativity in our learning as a community. Our facilitators are waiting to meet you!*
*Due to COVID-19 restrictions, our trainings have moved to virtual until we can safely resume in-person training. We do our very best to create a warm, welcoming and inspiring virtual space to closely reflect our in-person trainings as possible.
