Thanksgiving With Turning Leaf
One of the things we strive to do at Turning Leaf is to provide a sense of community and family with our participants.
We make a special effort to celebrate the holidays with our staff and the people we serve – and we are rewarded ten-fold!
There’s really no way to accurately describe how rewarding it is when we take the time to spend with our participants and have the opportunity to visit and enjoy everyone’s company. Everyone feels grateful to be together, and that was very evident at our annual Thanksgiving Dinner!
This week we celebrated Thanksgiving at The Sturgeon Heights Community Centre. Our staff puts a real effort into planning these events, many of them were busy cooking turkeys, hams and potatoes last night! Our staff and volunteers all pitch in to help plan, set up and execute these events.
Our Director of Community Relations, Leanne Peters is especially busy leading up to these events as she is the one who goes out into the community to find donations of money, food and other supplies. We would not be able to host a great dinner like we did this week without the support of our many sponsors. Thank you to all who donated!
The highlight of our Thanksgiving dinner was when we asked each participant to write down what they were thankful for. There were a lot ‘Thankful for Turning Leaf’ and ‘Thankful for my Support Worker’. Gratitude like that makes all the hard work even more rewarding for our staff and volunteers.
We asked each participant to pose for a photo and display what they wrote. Some were too shy to be in the photo, so we just took a picture of what they wrote. Scroll through the gallery below to see!
The next big event for our staff and participants will be a Christmas Dinner. We will be looking for donations of food, supplies and cash to make this possible. If you or your company would like to help us out, you can donate cash online by clicking here or you can contact Leanne Peters directly at 204 510-7892 or leannepeters@turningleafservices.com.
A Great Big THANK YOU to the companies who donated food & supplies for our meal! Tasse’s Balkan Foods, Safeway-Marion, Sobeys-Kenaston, Sobeys-St.Anne’s, Sobeys–Unicity, Sobeys–Sage Creek & Sobeys Extra-Pembina!
